Museums in Goa
Goa is the ultimate tourist halt for centuries having a wide amalgamation of beaches, churches, heritage sights and museums. The museums represent as an endeavor to preserve and protect the unique culture and heritage of the state. Archeological relics exquisite art and crafts of both traditional and modern paintings has made the place a worth visited one in Goa. Archaeological Museums :
It was established under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in 1964. There remain 8 galleries for displaying of old Goa portraits and sculptures from the prehistoric to the late mediaeval period. A plethora of artifacts belonging to the Portuguese period are also festooned in the Archaeological Museums. Antiques from Hindu period, sculpture of Hindu deities, many sati and hero stones are systematically placed in the Museum for visitors allurement. Rifle, swords and daggers are some impressive collection of the museum. Albuquerque and portraits of the governors resplendent in their official insignia are the prime means of attractions of the spot.
Goa State Museum :
Goa state Museum is the other name of inspiring collection of splendid architecture of ancient artifacts and sculptures. In the year 1973 Archeology and Museum unit has set the Department of Archives in Goa. The State Museum of Goa displays an assorted collection of over 8,000 substances including stone sculptures, paintings, manuscripts, numismatic collection, timber objects, bronzes, and anthropological objects. For facilitating the classification and display of the artifacts Goa state Museum has been divided into twelve galleries.
Museum of Christian Art :
positioned at the famous Rachol Seminary at Rachol close to Margao, the Museum of Christian Art did not hit any harmony with the tourists because of its distant settlement. The wonderful collection of art objects comprise of rosaries and other items made of gold and precious stone are tempting features of the Museum. Francis Xavier, Goa's patron saint, in silver sign and on the panels of a silver chest has adorned the museum in precious stone.
Naval Aviation Museum :
The Naval Aviation Museum is the only museum in the whole Asia opened on October 12, 1998. It is meant to pay victorious tribute to the origin and evolution of the Indian Naval Wing. Six vintage naval aircrafts made the spot India’s second largest aviation museum. Aircrafts encompass Sea Harrier, Sea Hawk, Sealand, Alize, Dove, Vampire and Hughes is the ultimate collections of the Museum. The Massive replicas of aircraft carriers INS Vikrant and INS Viraat are there to welcome the travelers of Goa.
