Diwali in Goa
Diwali, which means "a row of lights”, is a festival celebrated all over India with great pomp and show. This festival of lights is a prominent festival of the Hindus. It is observed as a mark of victory of light over darkness, goodness over evil.
According to the Hindu mythological stories, the king Rama fought a long battle with the demon king Ravana of Lanka. After a devastating battle where thousands and thousands of soldiers lost their life, Lord Rama won at the end. The festival of lights was celebrated in Ayodhya in the honour of the victory of their King. Since then, this festival of lights is celebrated year after year. Also there is another tale on Diwali. As per great epic called Mahabarata, tt was believed a demon named Narakasura used to harass the village peoples. One day Lord Krishna fought a battle with and demon and killed him.
Diwali is a one-day festival in Goa. Huge effigies of the demon Narkasura are burnt at the dawn in Goa. According to the Hindu calendar, the festival falls on the months of October to November. Enjoy Diwali in Goa with lots of burning crackers and amusing sweets and gifts.
