Carnival
Goa carnival is a major festival that was celebrated every year in Goa, since 18th century. It is a festival of feasting, drinking and merrymaking. Parades are organized to display the heritage and tradition of Goa. This parade is accompanied by bands, dances and balls in the evening. Goa carnival is one of the major attractions in Goa. It takes place just before 40 days of Lent. The Goa Carnival is celebrated for three days throughout Goa. People of every caste and creed take part in this festive occasion with great enthusiasm.
The Goa Carnival finds its originality from the ancient Rome and Greece pleasure seeking hedonistic feasts. It made its appearance in the Spanish and Portuguese colonies also. The carnival is presided over by King Momo, when he ordered his subject to do party. The three day non stop festival called carnival offers unlimited extravaganza of fun, song, music and dance. This celebration is also enjoyed in the Goan countryside by the Christian peoples by a different name called ‘Intruz’.
