Holi, the festivals of colours is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Goa. It is a festival celebrated to symbolize the victory of good over evils. Holi originates from the Hindu mythological story. It was believed that the demon king named Hiranyakashyap wished to kill his son, Prahlad. To do so he took the help of his sister, Hilika who was got a boon that fire won’t burn her. So, she jumped in the fire taking Prahlad on her laps. But inspite of Prahlad, she burnt on fire. Since then, the day is celebrated as the victory of good over evil.
In Goa, people get together to glow bonfires in the full moon night to signify the victory of good over the evil. Also the festival of Holi symbolizes the advent of a prosperous spring season. In Goa, the celebration starts in the morning and recedes around afternoon. The peoples of Goa visit the neighbourhood with friends and families to convey good wishes.
