Goa Crocodile Watching

Crocodile watching in Goa is one of the famous sightseeing that the tourists enjoy during Goa trip. The tourists can find many of them inside the thick mangrove jungle near the small village of Cumbarjua. You can witness numerous crocodiles in the Cumbarjua canal. It is because it is an ideal place for the crocodiles where the crocodiles can take sunbath on the banks of muddy canal. This canal is 15 km long. The canal is 20 minutes drive away from Panaji. This canal is linked with two big rivers namely the Zuari and Mandovi Rivers in Goa.

Also some crocodiles can be found in places like Chorao, Tivim and Quepem. The marine life in Goa also have rich ecosystem that sustains a healthy population of crocodiles. According to current estimation, the population of the crocodiles counts about 40 to 50. Mostly fresh water crocodiles are found in Goa, which have adapted themselves to survive in saline waters of the canals.

Crocodiles are locally called as 'mugger'. These crocodiles need to spend a lot of time basking on sunlight. They do so to keep their body warm. The fresh water crocodiles are scavengers who prey on fishes, birds, dog, cats, buffaloes and deer. These crocodiles have a life span of 60 to 80 years.
