Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary
Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is location at Chorao Island, on River Mandovi in Goa. It is named after the renowned ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is famous for different species of birds. It is a home to a myriad of bird species, both local and migratory. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is the smallest wildlife sanctuary in Goa encompassing an area of 1.8 sq. km. It is an ideal place to support a wide variety of flora and fauna due to its favorable eco-system.
The thick mangrove vegetation offers nice breeding ground for varieties of fishes and insects. These fishes and insects serves as the natural prey for the birds. It is an ideal bird watchers paradise. This sanctuary is a home to exotic species of birds. In the winter season, a large number of migratory birds can be seen at Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. Apart from the birds, you can also witness jackals and crocodiles in the sanctuary.

The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is situated at a distance of 29 km from Dabolim Airport. Also roadway access to the sanctuary is very easy. The bus service from Panaji and ferry service across the Mandovi River takes you to the island of Chorao. The best time to visit the sanctuary is between the months of October to March.
